A little view of the all wonderful (and sometimes strange) things to eat here!

Fruits

Dragonfruit!

Dragonfruit tastes like a less sugary kiwi.

Passion Fruit...my new favorite!

My first papaya~

Unripe mango straight off the tree.--eaten with sea salt and cracked pepper.

Bibasses--Kind of like a grape consistency with a juicy
orangey/melony taste.

Longani--A little like eating an eyeball.

Letchi- A lot like eating an eyeball. But you like it.

Coeur de Boeuf--Not a fan. It tastes like grainy yogurt with seeds you have to spit out.

Snacks!
These are staples at every party or picnic I've attended.

Samosas-filled with pork, beef, chicken, tuna, or just cheese

Bouchons-like chinese pot stickers. sometimes they will put them in a baguette with  melted cheese and mayo as a sandwich for lunch!

BonBon Piment: Slightly Spicy and made with chickpeas, I think.
Kind of bland, I don't like them to much.

Quail Eggs, which apparently have a billion amazing health benefits.

Drinks
Rhum Arrangé--A specialty of Reunion. Everyone makes their own rum at home, infused with different fruits and spices and sometimes left to soak for ten years...my friends just opened a bottle they made in 2001!! Letchi flavored, one of my favorites!

Rhum Arrangé: My favorite flavor so far is Sylvie's coffee beans and orange peel concotion.

Flavored Syrup makes lots of things better, such as beer and water! :-)

 Entrées

Rougail Saucisses---my absolute favorite Creole dish ever!!!!!

Cabri Massalé (goat)

BBQ!!

Boeuf Tortue

Meli-Melo minus the chicken and plus the mushrooms!

Cari Z'oeufs

Cari Poulet--Par Manu et Sylvie!

Saute Poulet

Kangaroo Filet!

Chouchou Quiche

Chouchou Quiche

Cari Crevettes

Rougail Sardines...This was not good.

Sides
Bredes--Leaves of veggies

Baked Camembert cheese with honey and thyme

Gratin Palmiste--Baked pieces of palm trees and lots of cheese.

Desserts
A friend's delicious idea...it's caramel and sea salt ice cream, fresh cut mangos, honey corn flakes, drizzled with real honey on top. mmmmmmmmmmmm

Profiteroles. Very French.

Bonbon Miel
Dense, heavy doghnut-like things dripping in honey!

Fresh mango pie!

Chez Manu et Sylvie (she has the best recepies!)

Galette des Rois--A French tradition...It seems that this kind of cake is only served on  6 January as a celebration of when the 3 Kings presented their gifts to Jesus. The youngest person closes their eyes and tells the cake server who to serve and in what order. Then...the lucky person that finds "la fève" in their cake is King or Queen for the day and has to wear a crown. Lucky me, thanks to this deranged rabbit lurking in my cake, I was Queen for the day.
